It's Time to Let Things Die Off Slowly
On recognition, writing at night and finding your place in darkness | The Muse Letter No. 136
As the light is tilting, our shadows grow larger:
we’re on the cusp of darker days emerging.
This whole week I could feel my body reacting to the loss of light, the evenings starting earlier; I’m thinking of picking up knitting again. I always think about taking up knitting around this time of year. Something to sink my hands into, to keep them busy and warm. However; I will not take up knitting this year just like I haven’t in the past, but for a week or so I like to pretend that I could. I light candles in the evening, sip tea and feel into this new space: those idle hours where it seems like no one is paying attention.
In a culture of pics or it didn’t happen, it’s time to let things die off slowly and to root down into the ground, to focus on what is nourishing us, what is truly important.
